OTOPLASTY (EAR SURGERY)

Having ears that are out of proportion with your face causes a lot of social problems. Ear surgery changes the shape and/or position of the ears, and the surgery can be performed on adults and children. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Lars Enevoldsen of Skinfinite Solutions Medical Spa and Laser Center, offers otoplasty for children and adults in Modesto, Stockton and surrounding areas of California.

What is Ear Surgery?

Ear reshaping, also known as otoplasty, is a surgical procedure for re-contouring the ears. Otoplasty is most commonly performed on children between the ages of four and 14, although it can also be performed on older children and adults. Ear reshaping surgery is effective for making the ears smaller or to not stick out from the head, and to help the ears look more proportionate to the rest of the face.

Benefits of Otoplasty?

Teasing is an unfortunate problem for those who live with ears that are too large, misshapen or stand out from the head too far. Ear surgery corrects all these problems so that the person feels more comfortable. Teasing also tends to subside after an individual has otoplasty.

How does Ear Surgery Work?

Otoplasty changes the shape and position of the ears by removing and reshaping the cartilage. Dr. Enevoldsen may also “pin” the ears with sutures. This process holds the ears closer to the head during healing. Pinning is performed on patients who have ears that stand out from the head too far, and it does not adversely affect hearing.

About Ear Reshaping

Ear reshaping is the most common type of otoplasty amongst children and adults in the Modesto and Stockton area. Dr. Enevoldsen uses his expertise as a board-certified plastic surgeon to carefully remove and reshape the hard cartilage that gives shape to the ears.

What to expect from Ear Surgery.

Otoplasty gives the ears a more natural shape that complements the other features of the face and head. Healing from ear surgery takes time, so we recommend that you postpone otoplasty for your child until the ears are completely developed. The ears will be sensitive to any injury or trauma, so you will need to carefully restrict your activities. The results are long-lasting.

How much does Ear Surgery cost in Modesto, CA?

Ear surgery does not change the ability to hear, so it is considered elective by your medical insurance. This means that you are responsible for the entire cost. We provide an estimate after your consultation, and you may incur other fees over the course of treatment. To the extent possible, we will advise you of these charges beforehand. For your convenience, we accept payment by cash, checks, major credit cards and financing through CareCredit®.

Children and adults experience challenges in social situations if they have misshapen ears. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Lars Enevoldsen, can help with otoplasty. To learn more, contact us today to schedule your personal consultation.
