What is Rhinoplasty?

Nose reshaping, also known as rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure for recontouring the nose. Many people are unhappy with the shape, size, proportion, or contour of their nose. Rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery can reshape the nose, helping the nose look more proportionate to the rest of the face.

How does Rhinoplasty work?

Rhinoplasty may modify one or more of these structures to achieve the desired improvement. You may need open or closed rhinoplasty, which refers to the extent of the surgery. Open nose jobs mean that the skin layer of the nose is peeled back and is generally recommended for problems in the upper portion of the nose. Closed rhinoplasty only requires and incision in the skin between the nostrils.

About Septoplasty Septoplasty is a common type of rhinoplasty that corrects a deviated septum. Many people who experience fatigue and poor sleep habits have deviated septum. Snoring may also indicate that a person has a deviated septum. This type of nose job is both cosmetic and functional in nature. Correcting the septum often modifies the linear appearance of the nose.

What to expect from Rhinoplasty?

You will have several follow-up appointments during the week after your nose reshaping. You may have bruising, including black eyes, swelling and discomfort. Dr. Enevoldsen may recommend over-the-counter pain medications, or he may give you a prescription for medications to control the pain. You will not be able to blow your nose, and your nose may be stuffy. You may need to take up to two weeks off from work and other activities. Healing can take up to three months, so you should take precautions to protect your nose from being injured.
