Photo Rejuvenation or BBL: Broad-Band Light

Photorejuvenation with the Sciton Broad Based Light (BBL) laser can remove damage caused by years of sun exposure and minimize the effects of aging on the face, arms, chest, and other large body areas, with no patient downtime. The photorejuvenation process uses the optimal wavelength of light to clear vascular and pigmented lesions by targeting hemoglobin (for vascular lesions) and melanin (for pigmented lesions). Once the light is absorbed as heat by the lesion, the lesion disappears.

Dr. Enevoldsen will discuss your concerns with you and explain the details about skin treatment with photorejuvenation. There are a number of non-surgical facial procedures available in Modesto; our doctor will help you determine the non-surgical skin treatment that is best for you.

Broad-Band light treatment is a laser technique used to treat a number of skin conditions, including:

  • Acne
  • Age spots/freckles
  • Small blood vessels around the nose
  • Unwanted hair
  • Skin firmness

It uses light energy to stimulate collagen regeneration in your skin cells, helping to restore natural coloring and smooth out skin for a younger-looking you. This innovative technique can be used to cover large surface areas or small spot treatments. Any area of your body can be treated with the BBl laser, but the most common areas are parts of the body more frequently exposed to the sun, such as the face, neck, hands, chest, and shoulders.

The procedure is non-invasive, and typically there is no need for an anesthesia. Patients describe the sensation of the laser as a warm “rubber band snap” sensation. The number of treatments will vary from patient to patient, and from location to location. Our Physician Assistant, Grace Barber, PAC will specialize your treatment so that it is specific to your needs.

After a treatment, most patients experience redness in the treated areas comparable to a sunburn, but that redness tends to fade within a couple of hours. If treatment is for dark spots in the skin, patients can expect the spots to darken as they come to the surface, followed by the spots flaking out of the skin, looking like coffee grinds. This flaking typically occurs about a week after the treatment. There is little to no downtime, and most are able to return to work wearing makeup immediately. Just be aware that your skin will be much more sensitive to ultra-violet light, and therefore you should avoid direct sun exposure for a couple of days and always wear medical grade sunscreen.
